On-page SEO and off-page SEO are two optimization techniques that should go hand in hand when you want to rank high on the search engines. On-page deals with elements within the site, while off-page obviously handles the external factors.
Actually, On-page SEO is a lot easier than off-page SEO because you have more control over internal elements than external ones. It’s often just a matter of knowing which to tweak to make your site more favorable for the search engines (Google in particular).
So here are eight on-page SEO techniques that I’ve learned and often employed when I’m optimizing a site:
Not too long ago, I chanced upon a blog post where the author declared that he is on top of Google. Curious, I read further and found out that the post claimed to rank number one for a certain website keyword and he was explaining how he got there (which is basically by using the keyword on his title and as the first words in his article). I checked and sure enough, he was on top. But I also checked his keywords on Google Keyword Tool and discovered, just as I suspected, the keyword receives very few searches, which makes it very easy to rank high for because it will have little or no competition at all.
The fact that it has low, almost negligible, search volume speaks for the quality of the keyword. It won’t generate significant traffic because no one is searching for it. Ranking high on a search engine is rather pointless if it won’t bring your site any traffic.
I thought I can avoid it, too–these complex rules and confusing techniques that many bloggers and website owners are straining their resources to implement. But it’s almost inevitable. I realized I will have to learn it sooner or later, might as well learn SEO today.
That is how I felt before I decided to delve into pages and pages of online SEO resources. I was trying to push aside learning SEO for the longest time because I thought I can do away with it (and yes, because it seemed too much work). But it continuously crept up on my online work, prodding me to take a look and read about it. In the end, I resigned to the fact that I have to have some degree of SEO knowledge if I want to pursue my goal, which is to earn BIG money online.
